Departure Points and Routes

There are two main departure points for ferries to Fraser Island (K’gari):

  • From Hervey Bay — Head to River Heads, about 20 minutes south of Hervey Bay. The Fraser Venture departs from here and lands at Wanggoolba Creek on the island’s western side. The crossing takes around 30 minutes.
  • From Rainbow Beach — Depart from Inskip Point, where you’ll find the Manta Ray Barge. The voyage takes 30 to 50 minutes depending on your chosen landing spot on the island.

Ferries run approximately every half hour, with some services completing the crossing in as little as 10 minutes. You can travel with or without a 4WD vehicle.
