Reaching Oé-Cusse from Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, is possible in three ways: by land, sea and/or air.

By Air

By plane is the easiest option, with flights on Monday to Thursday and Saturday in the morning (no flights on Friday morning or Sunday). It is a 35-minute flight where you can enjoy spectacular views of the island and the Savu Sea, and if lucky, see pilot whales in their migratory season. Ticket prices are $40 USD for adults, $30 USD for children from 2 to 12 years old, and $50 USD for corporate/business class.

By Sea

Alternatively, two ferries, the Success and Nakroma, come from Dili and arrive in Kitahara Mahata port in Oé-Cusse four days a week. Shipping is the main route through which goods arrive in the region, and although it is a long journey (12 hours), the price of transport is affordable ($10 for Success and $8 for Nakroman without cabin, $40 with cabin).

By Land

Finally, the road trip across Indonesian territory can be an excellent opportunity to explore both sides of the Timorese island. Be careful with timing: there is a one-hour time difference between the countries, the Indonesian border closes at 16:00 and the Timor-Leste border at 17:00. It is recommended to arrive at least one hour beforehand to complete all the necessary paperwork. There is no requirement to complete immigration paperwork when traveling by plane or boat.
