P&O Cruises now brings Timor-Leste a new kind of tourism by introducing Díli on their itinerary, marking a significant milestone for the young nation’s growing profile as a travel destination.
The Indonesian Explorer Itinerary
The new itinerary — Indonesian Explorer — offers a unique travel experience of 16 nights aboard the Pacific Jewel. The first voyage departed in June 2015 from Singapore, stopping at a remarkable string of ports: Semarang, Benoa (Bali), Komodo, Díli (Timor-Leste), Alotau, Doini Island, Kawanasausau, Milne Bay, and finally Brisbane.
For travellers who have never considered Timor-Leste, a cruise stop is the perfect low-commitment introduction. Díli’s waterfront, its World War II history sites, and the warm hospitality of the Timorese people tend to leave a strong impression — often enough to inspire a return visit as an independent traveller.
Timor-Leste Steps Into the Spotlight
Being included in a major cruise line’s Pacific route is one more step for Timor-Leste to establish itself on the world tourism map. With pristine dive sites, a rich cultural heritage, and landscapes that remain largely untouched, the country has much to offer visitors willing to venture beyond the well-worn trails of Southeast Asia.
