Every year, the United Nations seeks highly qualified young people who want to pursue an international career within the Organization. Through its annual contest, the Young Professionals Program (YPP) identifies new talent to join the UN workforce.
Exam Areas for 2019
The 2019 YPP exam covers two subject areas:
- Economic Affairs
- Information Systems and Technology
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, candidates must meet all of the following criteria:
- Hold a degree in higher education
- Be fluent in English or French
- Be a citizen of one of the participating countries
- Be up to 32 years of age (born on or after January 1, 1987)
Participating Portuguese-Speaking Countries
Timor-Leste is among the eight Portuguese-speaking countries included in the program:

How to Apply
Applications must be submitted through the UN Careers portal during June and July 2019, according to the schedule released by the responsible department.

- Complete and submit your application before the deadline
- Ensure all information is accurate and up to date — this data forms the basis for assessing your eligibility and suitability for the exam
- You will receive an application number by email upon submission
